Distributed energy storage refers to the storage of energy through
photovoltaic, wind power, or electricity from the grid in green energy. The
stored energy can be electricity, heat, cold, potential energy, etc. The access
location of distributed energy storage systems is flexible, mainly by connecting
the medium and low voltage distribution network, microgrid, and excess
electricity from users to the power supply network.
The load of the power grid varies with the daily electricity consumption,
with peaks and valleys. The continuous increase in wind and solar power
generation further intensifies the pressure of peak shaving. Energy storage
devices are used to discharge during peak load periods and charge from the grid
during low load periods, reducing peak load demand and improving load
characteristics to participate in system peak shaving.
With the expansion of renewable energy, it is increasingly necessary to
transform the constantly changing and intermittent power output into a more
stable and reliable power supply. Distributed energy storage systems absorb
power peaks by adjusting loads and injecting electricity when power supply
suddenly decreases. Local energy storage can alleviate power fluctuations caused
by renewable energy production and output. Distributed energy storage systems
have flexible access locations and are currently mostly used in medium and low
voltage distribution networks, distributed generation and microgrids, and user
side applications.
