According to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information
Technology, as of the end of September 2022, the total number of 5G base
stations in China has exceeded 2 million, reaching 2.22 million, accounting for
about one-fifth of the total number of mobile base stations.
At present, China's 5G network is already the world's number one, but the
breadth and depth of coverage are still slightly insufficient. With the gradual
improvement of related layouts, the number of 5G base station construction will
continue to increase.
Compared to 4G base stations, 5G base stations have a much higher power
demand, with a peak power of 3-4 times that of 4G base stations.
Therefore, the power response equipped with 5G base stations needs to be
more proactive in improving the operational efficiency of the power supply
system and reducing resource waste.
In response to this requirement, lithium battery energy storage, especially
lithium iron phosphate energy storage, will stand out with its advantages of
high efficiency, flexibility, and mature technology, becoming the optimal choice
for backup power supply of 5G base stations.
It is reported that since the beginning of 2020, State Grid Jiashan County
Power Supply Company has cooperated with Jiashan Unicom and other enterprises to
explore the "5G base station+energy storage" project. Through measures such as
replacing lithium iron phosphate batteries and constructing energy storage
equipment monitoring platforms, the 5G base station energy storage equipment has
been renovated to improve its work efficiency. Currently, it has begun to take
effect.
In the future, sodium ion batteries may have some penetration in this
field.
